10 things to do in Córdoba

Cordoba is the leader of Spanish cities with Musulman origins and roots, what nowadays is perfectly visible on emblematic or not so many monuments that are part of World Heritage. If you look closely and include to your plans outdoor activities in the region, you will know why past civilizations chose it as capital. You can start with these ideas:

1. Visit the Cathedral-Mosque of Cordoba:



It is the milestone that should mark the center of your vacation in the Andalusian city. Do not miss the richness of the roofs among its popular forest of columns, so often represented in art books. Immerse yourself in the Mudejar decoration of its origins and see the different stages through which this construction from 987 has passed until it reaches the basilica.

2. Ride a Segway in Paseo de la Victoria:



Enjoy a ride between the Crus Roja and Aguilar Galindo bowers, leaving in the center of the beautiful Victoria gardens. In this urban trip, you will also pass next to the Mezquita façade and the marvelous Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, putting less effort than walking and more fun.

3. Stroll through the Triunfo de San Rafael at night:



Join a guided tour that includes the classic streets of the capital within the old quarter. You will reach the Plazuela de Abades or Capuchinos, seeing how the artificial light enhances the Calleja de la Hoguera or the Callejas de las Flores. While you are going you will go with a guide who will tell you what legends have arisen between these walls.

4. Ride a bike through Medina Azahara:



In the X century, Abderrán order to build a city palace to which you will arrive from the center of Córdoba following the bike path from the Paseo de la Ribera. In this archaeological site, you can get an idea of the luxurious life of this Muslim monarch and all his court while the rest of the population served in administrative buildings to the government of the caliphate.

5. Horseback ride through Genil’s Riverside:



Ride a horse throughout Palma del Río whilst watching the fields of agricultural use from which this Cordovan town is nourished. If you do it in the spring months you will notice the smell of the flowers of Azahar in all its apogee, flooding the Vega del Guadalquivir with its characteristic aroma.

6. Kayak trip in the Guadalquivir:



Board an easy-to-control watercraft that will take you to the Miraflores bay and you can follow the profile of the capital from the water. You will make a section that goes to the Roman bridge with back and forth to the same municipal nautical center so you do not even have to travel if you stay in Cordoba.

7. Visit a winery in Montilla:



The wine, the brandy and the kinds of vinegar with the Montilla Moriles Denomination of Origin are grown in underground rooms that have been operating for more than a century. Attend the process of making these handmade products and take home a bottle as a souvenir to taste it placidly.

8. Adventure Park in the Sierra of Hornachuelos:



Go zip-lining over the Reserve of the Biosphere of the Sierra Morena Dehesas and jump from one tree to another with the help of bridges and footbridges filling the lungs with the pure air of the Cordovan mountain. Also in summer, you can bathe in the pool of these facilities.

9. Visit Sierra Morena zoo:



the native animals of this fauna center in Hornachuelos live in semi-freedom so that you can enjoy them in the habitat more similar to the one they would have in the middle of nature. You will have the goats, boars, and partridges that you can not see in the field because they remain hidden. They will also explain what the area was like in prehistoric times with posters and illustrations.

10. Go rafting in Benamejí:



Dare to enter the white waters of Genil, next to the center of the community of Andalucía. You will do a level section between II and III, which means that you will find the emotion you are looking for but that you can get on the inexperienced pneumatic raft. It is a family activity that you can share with children from 7 years old.
