The Pescolanciano Tratturo, along which our excursion takes place for approximately 70% of its length, is in fact an ancient communication route used to move flocks, in the summer months, from Puglia to the high altitudes of the Abruzzo pastures.
The remaining part of our itinerary winds along low-flow roads that cut through cultural landscapes that fall within the expansion area of the Collemeluccio-Montedimezzo MaB Reserve (Alto Molise) up to our point of arrival in Roccasicura.
This is a non-demanding tour, for which however a minimum of physical preparation will be necessary, so that the return can be faced without excessive effort.
Technical data:
- Start of the route: parking area near the start of the sheep track (Pescolanciano), 802 m above sea level,
- End of route: Piazza Umberto I (Roccasicura), 728 m above sea level,
- Route length: 17.7 km, one way (total 33 km),
- Difference in altitude: 661 m, one way (sum of the various partial altitude differences uphill),
- Difficulty: hiking.
