The bell tower dates back to the 12th century, initially intended as a lighthouse, it underwent a complete reconstruction in 1912 after it collapsed in 1905 due to significant structural damage. It is 99 meters high and is the highest panoramic point in the city. Overlooking the tower is the statue of the Archangel Gabriel, which rests on a copper-covered base.
The tower was also the theater of demonstrations by Galileo Galilei, who reached the top of the bell tower to demonstrate the functioning of his telescope.
