Obviously proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the archaeological area is open to the public and you can visit it thanks to this incredible tour, during which you will be accompanied by an audio guide, available in the following languages: Italian, French , English, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and German.
Inaugurated in 86 AD, the stadium was built to celebrate the Capitoline Competition: a five-year competition dedicated to Jupiter Optimus Maximus, with the aim of imitating the Olympic Games.
The inspiration was the Greek athletic competitions but musical and equestrian competitions were added: everything was presided over by the emperor himself.
