The Capricho Park has its origins in the 18th century, when the Duchess of Osuna acquired some land on the outskirts of the city of Madrid. Here she had her "caprice" built, which would be a garden with themed spaces, where the dukes could have fun. For this reason, we find different constructions in the park:
- A labyrinth.
- A casino.
- A fort.
- The ruins of a castle.
- A Byzantine hermitage.
- The "old woman's house."
Currently, the park occupies 14 hectares, where we can find gardens of English and Italian style (created by Jean-Baptiste Mulot).
Water is a fundamental element in Capricho. They even made a pier, a pond and an artificial estuary.
Great artists of the time worked in this place, such as Goya (painting El Columpio or La Pradera de San Isidro) or Boccherini, the composer.
