We will travel through the heart of the Sierra Madre Occidental to the mountains where the small hamlet of only five houses is grown, harvested and processed, where the maguey de Raicilla is born ( another generic name for agaves).
You will discover the towns of Atenguillo and Mixtlán, embedded in the mountain range. From there, you'll head high into the mountains to find this small but incredibly productive operation. You will visit the plantations, learn how they grow and care for this native plant. Then you will experience how they make the drink. You can even try extracting the juices from the root of the plant yourself. Get ready for this new experience!
These fantastic people and their followers will greet you. They will cook you a delicious meal while you taste their product and learn how these people have defied all expectations for such a small, local operation in the mountains, by exporting to Europe. We will have a special dinner prepared by the same people.
After a day of sun and dirt, you will enjoy the isolation and peace of a private ranch in the middle of nowhere. There, you will have the opportunity to share your experiences of the day, have a drink and have a wonderful rest. The next morning you will be greeted by a succulent breakfast prepared to the standards of the locals, so expect an excellent and filling meal!
