4x4 route through Castro Marim and Cacela Velha 4h

Far from the famous beaches of the Algarve, to the east of the Faro district, there is a small paradise guarded by the Guadiana River full of ecosystems formed by immense fauna and flora and by the different rural and coastal towns who live on the border of Portugal with Spain.

On this 4x4 route, we will enter this area of the region, in which gastronomy, nature, culture and history form a combination that is as exciting as it is attractive.

We will begin in the Sapal de Castro Marim Natural Reserve and its salt flats. This swampy area formed by the Guadiana estuary is home to large flocks of flamingos and storks, as well as many species of birds and fish. We will travel in the 4x4 along the trails that border this wetland, full of landscapes where the vegetation makes its way through the river.

We will head from the town of Castro Marim towards the coast through routes in which we will cross various scenes of rural Portugal, where we will stop to enjoy the gastronomy of the area, in addition to a good glass of medronho.

We will reach the coast, where we will ride through the famous town of Cacela Velha and its surroundings, one of the most important in Ria Formosa. This small town on the shores of the Atlantic has a special charm caused by its small white houses that contrast with the blue and green tones that flood the area.
