For all of you planning a trip to the mountains next weekend, there's nothing better than some tips or recommendations to ensure those days in nature are thoroughly enjoyed and nothing spoils them.

What adventure sports can you do in the mountains?

There's a wide variety, from rock climbing to hiking, including mountain biking or canyoning, among others. As you'll see, the options are quite extensive, so you've got plenty to choose from.

A day in the mountains

But whatever activity you choose, you must always go well-equipped and not leave anything behind!

  • Clothing and footwear. It should be comfortable and suited to the sport you'll be practising. For example, if you're going hiking, you can't wear the same footwear as for rock climbing, where climbing shoes are essential. It's very important to remember that you need to be prepared for the unexpected - no matter how sunny it is, a downpour might surprise you.
  • Backpack. Don't forget this for anything in the world! You need to pack all the essentials for your trip: waterproof jacket, food and drink, small first aid kit, sun cream, hat, GPS, compass, matches, fully charged mobile, etc. Remember that the backpack you choose should be comfortable and padded.
  • Food and drink. Even if you don't plan to spend much time in the mountains, you never know if the route might take longer than expected, so you should bring some snacks for mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Sugar or energy bars are great allies in these situations due to their high calorie content. Regarding drinks, it's very important to carry at least a two-litre bottle of water. In winter, even if it doesn't seem necessary or we're not thirsty, we still need to stay hydrated.

  • Go with others. Never go alone - at minimum, it's better to go with at least one other person. Nothing might happen, but you could need help at some point. In fact, someone in your circle who isn't joining you should know where you'll be spending the day and should be reachable.
  • Plan your trip. Nothing beats knowing where you're going and what route you'll follow during your day or days out. Remember to check the weather forecast before heading to the mountains.

 Enjoy nature

Finally, as last pieces of advice: choose routes suited to your needs and physical condition, be careful with distractions, check the state of the river, pool, etc. before taking a swim, respect the environment, and above all... enjoy the mountains to the fullest!
