The range of leisure and adventure activities continues to grow, and without a doubt, one of the most highly recommended options is water sports. In recent years, jet skis have become a major attraction for thrill-seekers looking to cool off and exercise in an exciting way.

There are various nautical companies that now offer the chance to pilot jet skis, whether on a guided tour through the most scenic areas, on a marked circuit, or via rental of the vehicle. The latter option is the best way to experience the most exhilarating sensations, as you’ll discover the magic of your surroundings without needing a guide!

What type of experience can I choose for jet skiing?

Whenever you want to ride a jet ski, you’ll need to select the type of experience you’re after.

  • Guided excursion: Many companies in coastal or river areas organise group outings, so... gather your friends and enjoy a fun-filled time!
  • Hourly rental: Some nautical centres rent out these vehicles and provide facilities for the activity. They often have a designated circuit where you can ride freely.
  • Daily rental: You might find a company located away from the activity site, offering multi-day rentals. You’ll be allowed to navigate a specific zone, which will be outlined when you book.

What qualifications do I need to pilot a jet ski?

Until now, to operate personal watercraft independently, you were required to hold one of the following licences: PNB (Basic Navigation Licence), PER (Recreational Skipper Licence), PY (Yacht Skipper Licence), or CY (Yacht Captain Licence). Alternatively, you needed one of these nautical-sport qualifications:

  • Class A Personal Watercraft Licence: This allowed you to pilot jet skis with an engine power of 110hp or higher.
  • Class B Personal Watercraft Licence: This permitted the operation of jet skis with 55hp to 110hp engines.
  • Federative Authorisation for Class C Personal Watercraft: This authorised the handling of jet skis below 55hp.

To obtain these certifications, you had to pass theoretical-practical exams and be over 18 (or 16 with parental/guardian consent).
