It’s well known that Hamilton is a big fan of many sports. Among them are golf and surfing, but during this winter break, he wanted to go a step further and got his license to fly "solo". The demands of the Formula 1 World Championship mean every driver trains their physical and mental fitness differently during their rest days—and this year, Lewis decided to take it up a notch, something that likely didn’t sit well with his team’s management.
The five-time world champion is making the most of his final days off and recently uploaded a photo to his Instagram that caused quite a stir. The exact type of license he’s obtained isn’t confirmed, but to earn even the most basic one, he would have had to complete a minimum of 25 jumps.

In contrast, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, when asked, said he hasn’t and won’t follow in Lewis’s footsteps, fearing injury could jeopardise his chances of winning the championship. He argues that he’s still a young driver, whereas Hamilton is nearing the end of his career, so the risks he takes are much lower.
There are just 5 days left until Hamilton’s new Mercedes W10 is unveiled at Silverstone Circuit on 13th February.
